The official SAFE Holidays page says December volunteer shifts are available

The SAFE Alliance says its 2026 holiday program needs volunteers throughout the first half of December. The published duties are helping with donor drop-off, organizing gifts and supporting staff pickup as the organization coordinates donations for survivors and families affected by violence and abuse.

The page links directly to SAFE's VolunteerHub portal and also says more opportunities are coming soon. That makes this a current recruitment route, but not a promise that every role, date or time is already posted. Help Austin reviewed both links on October 24 and found no dependable public remaining-space count.

Prospective volunteers should use the live portal, select only a visible shift and wait for SAFE's confirmation before treating the assignment as secured. A role summarized here may fill or change before December.

  • Start from SAFE's official holiday page and follow its VolunteerHub link.
  • Use the live portal for dates, duties and remaining availability.
  • Keep the registration confirmation and any later logistics message.
  • Do not arrive at a warehouse location without a confirmed shift and address.

Volunteer work supports a larger holiday giving program

SAFE Holidays pairs donors with survivor wish lists and coordinates seasonal gifts, basic-needs items, small trees, decorations and wrapping supplies. The organization says it seeks hundreds of sponsors, while its volunteer team helps manage the physical flow of those donations.

The public timeline lists wish-list pairing from November 14 through December 5 and gift drop-offs by appointment from December 6 through 8. Those are donor-program milestones, not a complete volunteer-shift calendar. Volunteers should not infer their own assignment from those dates unless VolunteerHub or SAFE confirms it.

This story focuses on volunteering. Sponsoring a family, supplying a kit, shopping a wish list or donating money uses a different route on the holiday page and should not be confused with reserving a volunteer shift.

Three published duties call for different kinds of support

Donor drop-off support may involve greeting donors and keeping intake orderly; gift organizing centers on sorting or staging items; staff-pickup support helps SAFE teams receive the right donations for program delivery. SAFE has not published a detailed task list, physical requirement or shift length for every opening on the holiday page, so this guide does not add one.

Read the specific signup listing for standing, lifting, mobility, age or training requirements. If the live portal does not answer a requirement that determines whether you can participate, contact SAFE through the official program rather than relying on a general holiday description.

The opportunity is administrative and logistical support for SAFE's program. It is not presented as direct survivor service, and volunteers should follow confidentiality and handling instructions included in their confirmation.

Confirm the assignment address because the public page lists two Grove Boulevard locations

The holiday page's warehouse section lists 1401 Grove Boulevard, while separate instructions for mailing or delivering larger gifts name 1515A Grove Boulevard. Those addresses may serve different functions, but the public page does not explain the distinction for volunteers.

Use the address in the confirmed shift or organizer message instead of choosing one from the general donation instructions. Help Austin is preserving the discrepancy rather than guessing which building applies to a particular role.

The same page lists regular warehouse hours of 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and third Saturdays monthly, plus several closure dates. Those public warehouse hours are not automatically volunteer-shift hours.

New-item and closure guidance matters for anyone combining service with a donation

SAFE says it prefers only new donations from November 1 through January 31 because of staff and storage capacity and asks people to hold used donations until February 1. Volunteers bringing items should follow that instruction separately from their shift registration.

The published closure list includes November 26–27, December 19, December 24–25, December 31 after 1 p.m. and January 1, 2027. A volunteer confirmation should control if it conflicts with general warehouse hours or a saved copy of this article.

Because the holiday page says additional opportunities are still coming, people who do not see a suitable assignment can recheck the official portal. Help Austin does not recommend arriving without a confirmed registration or assuming that a future listing will meet a particular schedule.
