The current calendar lists a five-hour October 29 event shift

First Tee–Greater Austin’s live volunteer-opportunities page lists a 5 to 10 p.m. volunteer shift for More Than A Game on Thursday, October 29, 2026, at Star Hill Ranch. The public event itself is scheduled from 6 to 10 p.m., so volunteers should expect to arrive before guests rather than use the event start as their call time.

The organization describes More Than A Game as its most important fundraiser of the year. The October portion includes a live taping of Texas Music Scene, food and beverages, and silent and live auctions. Those program details describe the fundraiser; the volunteer page does not assign public roles such as check-in, auction support or hospitality in advance.

As of October 5, the organization still published the shift, but it did not show a remaining-space count or a dedicated event-volunteer registration form. Contact Chief Operating Officer Derrick Elstob through the phone number or email on the official volunteer page before treating the listing as a confirmed place. Do not arrive at Star Hill Ranch without instructions from First Tee.

  • Ask specifically about the October 29 More Than A Game shift.
  • Confirm that a place remains and ask what role, attire and arrival point apply.
  • Use the 5 p.m. volunteer call time, not the 6 p.m. guest start.
  • Wait for direct instructions before traveling to Star Hill Ranch.

A second More Than A Game shift is listed for November 9

The same volunteer page lists a 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. shift on Monday, November 9, at UT Golf Club. The event page identifies that date as the Captain’s Cup Golf Tournament and gives a 10 a.m. shotgun start. It says each four-player team is paired with a First Tee–Greater Austin participant.

This is a separate date and commitment from the October 29 concert-and-auction evening. Volunteering for one does not automatically register someone for the other, and the public pages do not say that volunteers must serve both.

Because First Tee does not publish remaining capacity or a task list for November 9, use the same contact-first process. Ask whether the full seven-hour window is required, what outdoor or golf-course conditions to prepare for, and whether training or a background check applies to the assigned role.

Golf experience is not required for most volunteer roles

First Tee says golf skills are not required for most of its volunteer positions and that it provides training and support for coaching at program sites. The organization frames the work around delivering character-building programs for young people, not around recruiting only experienced golfers.

Prospective coaches can use the volunteer page’s active Bloomerang signup link. The organization also lists in-person volunteer training at Harvey Penick Golf Campus on the first Saturday of every month from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.

The page publishes a recurring training pattern rather than an individual reservation for the next session. Submit the coach form and confirm the specific date with staff before attending; do not infer acceptance or a placement from completing the form.

Campus roles offer smaller recurring commitments

For volunteers who cannot take a five- or seven-hour event shift, the official opportunities page lists Driving Range Clean Pick on Mondays at Harvey Penick Golf Campus from 4 to 7 p.m. The published options are one-hour blocks: 4 to 5, 5 to 6 and 6 to 7 p.m.

The page also lists Green Team beautification projects on the first Friday and Saturday of each month. Friday shifts are 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 2 to 4 p.m.; Saturday shifts are 3 to 5 p.m. First Tee asks for at least one week’s notice before attending a Green Team day.

These are recurring program descriptions, not proof that every future date has unlimited room. Contact the organization for a specific Monday or first-weekend date, wait for confirmation and follow any weather or campus-access instructions.

Choose the route that matches your time and level of youth contact

The two fundraiser shifts are finite, date-specific commitments. Range and beautification work are recurring campus-support routes. Coaching is a longer relationship with young participants and uses a signup and training process. Keeping those routes separate helps applicants avoid selecting a role whose screening, schedule or responsibilities do not fit.

First Tee’s volunteer overview says youth safety is its first priority and links to its prevention policies. A prospective volunteer should expect staff to control placement, training and any screening tied to direct participant contact rather than assuming that a general inquiry grants access to a program.

Help Austin reviewed the official pages on October 5, 2026. The October 29 and November 9 shifts were still listed, but no public capacity count was available. The organization’s current instructions—and a direct confirmation for event service—should decide whether an opening is actually yours.
