The live signup showed 27 volunteer places on October 19

Fix-It Austin’s next clinic is Saturday, November 7, 2026, at Lamar Senior Activity Center, 2874 Shoal Crest Avenue. Volunteer coaches serve from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.; the public clinic runs from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The live GivePulse page showed 27 of 34 coach positions remaining when Help Austin reviewed it October 19: 14 openings in electronics and miscellaneous repair, four in jewelry repair and nine in sewing. Registration is scheduled to close November 6 at 10 a.m. or when space runs out.

Those counts are a snapshot, not a reservation. Choose the repair category that matches your skills and complete its official registration before making plans. The event page does not say that every registrant is automatically accepted for every kind of repair.

  • Open the live GivePulse page for the current place count.
  • Register for the category that matches your repair experience.
  • Plan for the full volunteer window, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Use 2874 Shoal Crest Avenue, Austin, TX 78705 for the listed location.

Coaches repair drop-off items, then teach neighbors side by side

GivePulse describes two parts to the shift. Before the public clinic opens, volunteers work alone or in teams on items dropped off by people who cannot attend. During the public portion, coaches troubleshoot alongside attendees and teach repair skills rather than simply taking an item away for service.

Electronics and miscellaneous coaches may see small appliances, lamps, fans, toys, power-cord replacements or soldering tasks. Jewelry coaches may handle clasps, chains, earrings or restringing. Sewing coaches may help with hems, buttons, zippers and patches.

The city says common tools and equipment will be available and volunteers may bring their own. A light lunch is listed for coaches before the public portion begins. The public page does not promise that every item can be fixed.

Attendees have a different registration and a two-item limit

People seeking help with an item should use the separate attendee registration linked by the City of Austin, not the volunteer-coach form. The clinic is free, but the city says space is limited and a waiver is required.

Each attendee may bring no more than two items. The November listing excludes gas-powered items, laptops, tablets and cellphones. Fix-It Austin also asks people with specialty parts—such as matching fabric or buttons—to bring those materials when relevant.

The city describes the clinic as a learning event and does not guarantee a successful repair. Attendees should expect to work with a coach, learn troubleshooting steps and leave with next steps if the item cannot be completed onsite.

  • Use the attendee form if you need repair help; use GivePulse only to volunteer.
  • Bring no more than two eligible items.
  • Do not bring a laptop, tablet, cellphone or gas-powered item.
  • Bring specialty replacement parts when you already have them.

A drop-off option runs November 2 through 5

The November event also offers an option for people who cannot attend the clinic. The city says eligible items may be dropped off at Lamar Senior Activity Center from November 2 through 5, then picked up November 9 through 13.

The same two-item limit and exclusions apply. The city says it will try to repair drop-off items but does not guarantee success, and items not claimed by November 13 will be donated.

This is a separate participation route, not a promise of priority service. Follow the event page and its waiver instructions before leaving an item, and keep any confirmation needed for pickup.

Fix-It Austin connects repair skills to the city’s zero-waste goal

Austin Resource Recovery says Fix-It Austin builds community around repair and reuse, helping residents keep usable items out of landfills and reduce demand for new raw materials. Its broader program page connects that work to Austin’s zero-waste-by-2040 goal.

The city says clinics are free and open to the public, and that volunteer coaches’ primary role is teaching. The November signup is a one-day opening; Fix-It Austin also recruits people with repair knowledge for future clinics and classes.
